Sinistarr

sinistarr

Causing much commotion and change over the last year has been Detroit, Michiganquote s own Sinistarr.

Combining the native sounds of Detroit techno, electro and house into his own stew, Sinistarr gained the attention from tastemakers like Fabio early on, who had Sinistarrquote s ldblquote Leeroy Jenkinsdblquote pegged early for the mighty Creative Source. While that didnquote t pan out (ldblquote Leeroy Jenkinsdblquote later ended up on Influence), this did not slow his roll down one bit.

Aside from the ldblquote Leeroy Jenkinsdblquote 12dblquote , he also signed a 12dblquote to Nu Directions (ldblquote Anorakdblquote / ldblquote Nubiennedblquote ), released an EP (ldblquote Somethingquote s Workingdblquote on Blu Saphir Digital) and dropped a tune called ldblquote Recoverydblquote on Deep Soul Musicquote s Future Without A Past CD compilation.

Horizons Music has picked up on his ldblquote Lynx Is Playing At My Housedblquote lick (with whom hequote s recently inked a nice deal with), not to mention a 12dblquote for Creative Source in the future.

Aside from the production side of things, hequote s also a solid DJ, spinning mixes for a number of podcasts (BBS Bookings, Sonorous Music, etc.) and club dates, and spend time as an A&R for San Diegoquote s Peer Pressure Recordings, helping get quality producers the world over some much-needed shine.

Label heads, promoters and DJs alike should keep an ear to the ground, as this young talent is surely set to turn heads in 2009, and beyond.

Words: khal

I first began to hear about Sinistarr once Leeroy Jenkins started to make the rounds. I was not a fan. I just really wasn’t digging the track and everyone was going nuts over it and I was exactly the opposite.

Then I heard him mix at our local dnb night here in Chicago about a year ago and I totally remember thoroughly enjoying his whole set and decided I would give his tracks another listen.

Now I’m a wee bit obsessed. What else is new? I have an obsessive personality I guess. ;)

It began with Detroit Diesel and then catapulted from there. Detroit Diesel is nasty. I love it. Sorry I donquote t have a sample. Then I sought out some other tracks by him and heard Park Avenue. Woot. Nothing But You. So sexy. Donquote t get me started on Black Diamonds with Kiat (track is in his myspace player). Love it!

Basically you get my drift. This dude is killing it. Iquote ve been listening to the mix below for the past couple of days. You should definitely take a listen.
